Abdirahman M. Abdullahi

Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi is an accomplished financial expert with nearly three decades of experience in public finance, economic policy, and institutional reform. His career began in 1986 at Somalia’s Ministry of Finance, where he developed a strong foundation in financial management and policy formulation. His professional journey was further enriched by international experience in Norway and the United Kingdom, where he gained exposure to global best practices in economic governance and reform.
Appointed as Governor of the Central Bank of Somalia (CBS) in 2019, Mr. Abdullahi has spearheaded a series of transformative reforms. Under his leadership, CBS has strengthened regulatory frameworks, enhanced institutional capacity, introduced mobile money regulations, and implemented a national payment system. His reappointment in July 2023 is a testament to his commitment and effectiveness in promoting financial stability and economic development in Somalia.
Prior to his role at CBS, Mr. Abdullahi served as Senior Public Finance Policy Advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister, where he played a key role in shaping fiscal policy and advancing Somalia’s debt relief process in collaboration with the IMF.
Beyond his passion for finance and economic policy, Abdirahman has actively contributed to humanitarian and development initiatives in the Horn of Africa and Yemen, deepening his insights into the complex challenges facing fragile states.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and a Master’s degree in Finance and International Banking from Liverpool John Moores University, UK.
